Pokémon Returning To Generation 9 So Far

Hello, Gamers! Today is another Pokémon Scarlet and Violet article. After watching both of the current trailers for the game, I figured it would be nice to sit down and compile a list of every single pokémon from a previous generation returning to these games, so that’s what I’ve got for you today. If you haven’t read the first two articles, you can do so here and here

As of right now, we are unsure if every pokémon will make a return to gen 9, and given GameFreak’s reluctance to do so in the past with gen 8, it seems highly unlikely. With the closing of the Wii U and 3DS e-shops in May, I don’t think it would be too much to ask to actually have a game where all previous-gen pokémon are useful (and not have to be stuck inside Pokémon Home forever), but what do I know?

This highly fan-requested feature may never see the light of day again, but for now, here’s the current list of all previous-gen pokémon returning in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. A quick note, I am going to make the assumption that if we see a fully evolved form of a pokémon or even the first form, the full evolutionary line is also there. For that reason, I will include all pokémon in that line in the list.

*Hello, Gamers! We have an update from the 8/3/22 Pokémon Presents! I am updating our list with the pokémon seen in the trailer and others we can expect because they come from the same evolutionary line. Please read part 1 and part 2 of my Pokémon Presents overview if you haven’t already!

**Another update, Gamers! Today is 8/21/2022 and it is the conclusion of the Pokémon World Championships. At the end of the event, we were gifted more generation 9 information and with that, some new returning pokémon!

Returning Pokémon: First Trailer

Pokémon marked with an asterisk are the ones within the evolutionary line actually seen in the trailers. Pokémon marked with two asterisks also appear in the second trailer and will be left off of that list. *Pokémon with an asterisk appear in any of the subsequent trailers and will be left off of the list for that particular trailer.
