Jump Into A Paldean Journey + Wiglett + Iono

Hello, Gamers! Today I have an article containing all of the news from the last three Pokémon Scarlet and Violet trailers into one article. Don’t worry, none of the trailers are all that long, nor do they contain an overwhelming amount of information in them. I’ll go over each of the trailers in the order they were released and discuss the new information presented in each video.

In the second trailer, we see some returning pokémon, so be sure to check out this article to see what pokémon from previous games are returning to Scarlet and Violet so far. There are quite a few, and I’ve had to change the format of the article once already. I may need to do so again, as the list keeps growing.

With that out of the way, let’s jump into and dissect these three trailers!

Wiglett Knows How To Make A Splash Trailer

As you can see in the video above, we have been introduced to a new pokémon called Wiglett, the garden eel pokémon. Some of you may be wondering, “Is Wiglett just the Paldean regional variant of Diglett?” and the answer is no, it’s a completely different pokémon. They just so happen to look very similar.

This water-type pokémon apparently has a great sense of smell, being able to pick up scents that are approximately 60 feet away. Maybe that’s why its nose is so big? However, if they pick up the scent of another pokémon, they hide away in the sand. Sounds like they’re pretty shy too!

Jump Into A Paldean Journey Trailer

I’m not gonna lie, over half of this trailer is going over stuff that we know about the game already. However, there are a few things that they mentioned we haven’t seen before and they’re definitely worth mentioning here. I’ll review them here, in the order they were discussed in the trailer.

  • Wild Tera Pokémon
    • Remembering that terastallizing is a phenomenon that crystallizes pokémon and increases the power of moves based on their tera type, you can find pokémon out in the wild that shimmer and glow. These pokémon will terastallize and can be fought and caught.
    • The rarer types of these pokémon will have a Tera Type different than their own. Any pokémon is capable of having any of the eighteen different types as its Tera Type.
  • “Let’s Go!” Command
    • A mode of play that is probably named after the first two Pokémon titles released on the Nintendo Switch; Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee.
    • Using this command will send your lead pokémon out into the field and they will battle any other pokémon nearby and go after items on the ground.
    • You need to use this when you fight the Team Star grunts, as the whole battle against them is timed. Then you will fight the base leader.
  • Return of the Rotom Phone
    • Acts as your map and allows you to receive calls from your friends.
  • TM Machine
    • Allows you to craft TM‘s using materials that pokémon drop when you defeat or catch them. Accessed from any Pokémon Center.
  • Farigiraf
    • Girafarig finally got an evolution.
  • Style Changes
    • Character Customization
      • Hair Style/Color
      • Eye shape/Color
      • Eyelashes/Color
      • Eyebrows/Color
      • Lip shape/Color
      • Ability to add freckles or moles
    • Use Rotom Phone to take selfies and update your trainer card picture
  • Picnics
    • Similar to camping from Sword and Shield, but now you make sandwiches instead of curry.
      • Gives benefits such as making certain types of pokémon easier to catch.
    • Play with your pokémon and bathe them.
    • Possibility to find pokémon eggs in the basket
      • There is no evidence this is replacing breeding in any way and seems to be an additional way to find eggs.

Guess Iono’s Partner Pokémon Trailer

In our most recent trailer, we are introduced to the electric-type gym leader, Iono! Iono is a streamer and influencer. Based on what we see in the trailer, we can assume that she has some form of broadcast that we may get to see in-game.

Iono seems to have an energetic and outgoing personality. She has pastel pink and blue hair, with matching magnemite hair clips (Nope! Those aren’t pokémon.), pink eyes, jagged teeth, and an oversized yellow jacket that covers a reflective pink and blue outfit. There’s also black detailing on her outfit. She also makes electric-based puns and noises, adding to the fact she’s the electric-type gym leader.

Her design is very reminiscent of a Vtuber’s avatar. Vtubers are streamers with a virtual avatar, typically done in an anime style. Her broadcast is also very similar to the daily report that Isabelle gives us in Animal Crossing New Horizons, and the idol ran broadcasts from the Splatoon series. This leads me to believe that they may be a permanent feature in-game, but we don’t have any confirmation on that just yet.

At the end of her stream, Iono left us with a special task; to guess who her partner pokémon is! She answered a series of questions and gave very vague answers to them. I’ll list them down below:

Q: “What’s it feel like?”

Iono: “Squishy! Squishy-squishy!”

Q: “Is it magnemite?”

Iono: “Nope, these things on my head are fancy-schmancy hair clips! Cute, right?”

Q: “Is it fast or slow?”

Iono: “People think it’s a little sluggish with an easygoin’ vibe.”

Q: “What’s it look like?”

Iono: “It’s got two big ol’ bumps on its noggin that people always mistake for eyes.”

Q: “What type is it?”

Iono: “ELECTRIC, of course! I’m an Electric-type Gym Leader, after all! Oh yeah – that reminds me! Its body expands and contracts to generate electricity in its belly!”

And these are all of the hints we are given. Can you guess what her partner pokémon is? I think it’s a brand-new, never before seen pokémon new to the Paldea region.

When will we know what it is? No idea! But as soon as we know, I’ll be sure to post about it! I will probably add an update to this article, as well as letting everyone know on social media, so be sure to follow me on Facebook and Twitter to stay up to date.

Wrapping Up

So, what do you think of all of the information that we have so far? We’re just over a month away from the release of Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. Are you excited yet? Because I sure am! We probably won’t be getting much more information before the game is released, but whatever they unveil, I’ll be sure to share it with all of you.

Coming up next week, there’s a special Behind The Sims Summit going over special information regarding The Sims series. My next article will be going over that information, so be sure to come back next week for more. That’s all I have for now. Later, Gamers!

    1. Thank you for visiting. These “spelling errors” you are talking about are names of video game titles, specific creatures in those games, and specific names of characters in those games. They are not misspelled, they are spelled exactly as they are within the lore that they come from. I highly advise you to garner a little bit of knowledge on the subject matter before critiquing the spelling of those specific things. Otherwise, my articles are both proofread and checked by Grammarly, therefore, I highly doubt they are as plagued by spelling mistakes as you say.
